
8-Day Break
Day 1 – We fly into Rome and travel to Cassino, where we stay for the next seven nights.
Day 2 – Salerno & Caserta (included). We start the tour at Salerno, where British forces landed in 1943. We see the beach-head, and the Roman Ruins where the Americans fought. We visit Salerno War
Cemetery, seeing the grave of the great-grandson of the Duke of Wellington, and the many press correspondents who served with broadcaster Alan Whicker. Lunchtime in Salerno. In the afternoon we
drive past Mount Vesuvius and visit the war cemeteries in Naples and Caserta. B,D
Day 3 – Monte Cassino (included). In Cassino we visit the Cassino War Cemetery and Cassino Memorial to the Missing. We include a visit to the excellent Historiale Di Cassino multi-media museum,
where lunch is also included, and then in the afternoon we travel up to the abbey and Polish War Cemetery. We also visit the German War Cemetery at Caira. B,L,D
Day 4 – Hill 593, Snakeshead Ridge & the Liri Valley (included). We continue with our look at Monte-
Cassino with a specially arranged visit to Hill 593 and Snakeshead Ridge, where much of the actual fighting took place. Please note this will involve some walking. We also walk down to Albaneta Farm and the wreck of a Sherman Tank, now a memorial to Polish troops. After lunch we look at the fighting
along the Rapido and in the Liri Valley, seeing the Herts & Beds Memorial, the memorial bells by the Rapido River, and the ground where the breakout took place at Acquino Aerodrome and Pontecorvo. B,D
Day 5 – Anzio (included). Today we look at the Battle of Anzio, seeing the US War Cemetery at Nettuno before having lunch in the seaside town of Anzio. After lunch we see the Anzio War Museum, Anzio War
Cemetery and the Beachhead Cemetery, before travelleing via the infamous Flyover and Lateral Road out to the site of the Wadis. B,D
Day 6 – Sangro & Ortona (included). We head north today, travelling via the French Cemetery at Venafro before going up to the Sangro River. Here we see the Sangro Valley and Sangro War Cemetery. At Ortona we look at the story of the Canadians, seeing the Moro River War Cemetery and the excellent Ortona War Museum. Spending time in Ortona itself, we see original WW2 graffiti and a Sherman
tank used by the Canadians. B,D
Day 7 – Volturno (included). On our final day we travel to the Volturno area, and see Minturno War Cemetery where the men who fell in the Volturno Crossing, and in the fighting at nearby Monte Camino are buried. In the afternoon we return to Cassino for free time in the town, and a final visit to the Cassino War Cemetery. B,D
Day 8 – We then return to Rome for our flight home to the UK.B

Accommodation
You’ll stay for seven nights at the 3-star Hotel Forum Palace, or similar in Cassino. The hotel is situated close to the centre of the city and offers a restaurant, bar and lounge. All bedrooms have T.V., telephone, hairdryer and air-conditioning.
